A
vision / passion that we share in our
book, Train Your Dog, Change Your Life, and know for sure is that the only thing that can
create change is change. You can't change your dog or anyone's
behavior until you consider changing your own.
Training your dog can
be a pleasant learning experience for humans and dogs. It can help us
overcome some fear, anxiety and stuck in the muck
re-runs that we oftentimes re-play in our minds. A small paradigm
shift can help change a pattern of behavior, like getting yourself and
your dog calm before training. Getting connected with your dog can teach us how to let go and grow.
Training dogs is not about
dominance. It is about developing a respectful relationship with
leadership and trust.
Our classes are
unique in that we enjoy a whole-dog learning experience. Noticing our and our dog's breathing, energy,
balance and flow, and letting go of the struggle is the beginning of a
lifelong friendship of understanding.
Twenty
minutes of in-the-moment training can replace an hour of anxious, boring
or repetitive training. If the dog or the human) is zoned out, so
will be the learning opportunity. We integrate FUN and REWARDS into
training. We begin with warm-ups, increased intensity and learning,
then fun, and easing out way back to calmness. This technique helps to
teach dogs the difference between work and play, jolly-up and settle-down.
Beginning Pet-Assisted Therapy Training
is
integrated into Level 1 Training as a starting point for those interested in
becoming registered pet partner or R.E.A.D. teams. These are the basic
skills that all dogs need for the "real world" like socialization, sit,
stay, down, come, take-it, leave-it, back-up, wait, easy and gentle.
For detailed
information on becoming a Registered Pet Partner, journey to
How to become a Pet Partner.

Socialization is the springboard to
healthy interactions dog-to-dog and between dogs,
children and society!
We invite puppies from 12 to
16 weeks to puppy socials. Puppy socials are short (15-20 minutes),
supervised play sessions before class. It is part of the "learning
experience". Pups navigate their way in
interactions with other pups & humans. They recognize and practice
valuable body language
cues & communications skills (Calming Signals©
(Turid Rugaas). Carefully taught human intervention emphasizes the
leadership role (calm, flexible & assertive). Puppy socials
transition into Level 1 training class.
Level 1 Family and Therapy Dog Training ~ REAL WORLD TRAINING FOR REAL DOGS~
Beginnings 6 - 1+ hour weekly sessions - $180
Includes
Book, Train Your Dog, Change
Your Life and other Hand-outs / Articles
2-dog discount:
10% off second dog $162 - 1-handler required for each dog
Group classes are offered
to pups at about 4-months (approved by your Primary Vet).
Older and
adopted dogs are a joy. We require
assessment for most adopted dogs
before entry into group classes for safety & stress reasons.
Call 603-635-3647 or
e-mail to inquire.
Families and children are
welcome.
Children and teens under
16 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
Positive-reward training
(PRT)
focuses on
shaping behaviors. This includes breathing, centering, grounding and
connecting with ourselves, then our dogs. We practice walking on
loose leash, sit,
down, stand, stay, take-it, leave-it and give-it (object exchange),
using easy, fun sequences. PRT gives puppies/dogs
the opportunity to think, offer behaviors, and be rewarded! What's
not to like? It is a delightful learning experience for people
committed to embarcing their dog as part of the family. If you have
a "specialized" goal in mind for your dog (competition, sports, therapy
work) they require a good foundation of training, confidence and safe
interations.
We encourage training our dogs
with the perspective of building a relationship with
another species-- teaching
communications skills, wisdom and
respect, which every species deserves in an understandable way.
Learn
about pack leadership, chewing, barking, digging, housetraining and the
natural ways that help teach a pup to live within a human hierarchy. We have fun
by integrating games, socialization, breathing and basic massage.
Touching calms us and the dogs, desensitizing them for handling by others
(Veterinarian
wellness checks and healthy grooming).
Humans and dogs
develop a positive foundation
to build a life long relationship.
Clicker Training
is encouraged and welcomed if you are experienced. It is in our
book and there are many good resources. One of our favorites is
mentor, Karen Pryor
clickertraining.
Other essentials include discussions on
life management skills (with our dogs in mind) covering basic puppy care,
housetraining, therapeutic chewing, occupational digging, exercise,
well-being, whole nutrition and grooming
for health and self esteem.
All information / resources are available in our book
Train
Your Dog, Change Your Life,
on this website
(canine coach)
and in the growing library /
articles.

DOG SPORTS
- All Levels - 6
- sessions / 1-hour / $120 - Amusement Park for Dogs!

Level 1 & 2 Training
should be completed or let us know what training you've had before
joining Dog Sports:)
A virtual playground for higher learning,
non-competitive Agility or
Dog Sports
is contagious fun you can share with your dog.
DS is comprised of a maze of games using obstacles that dogs maneuver
(with handler guidance). The dog learns to traverse a dog-walk,
negotiate a see-saw, climb an A-frame, zigzag through weave poles, slinky
through tunnels, soar over a variety of challenging hurdles, cones, chairs and
challenging sequences.
Dog Sports, along with your own creative
games, are pure and simple joy! It’s mentally and physically
stimulating for dog and handler. It is a great way to get rid of
excess energy and blow off steam in a constructive, controlled and
pleasurable manner.
Although
agility can be a competition sport, it is as equally challenging and enjoyable
for those who simply want to enjoy an enthusiastic game with their dogs!
Dog Sports begins
with an
introduction to contact obstacles,
teaching your dog to safely get use to cross-overs, dog walk, tire jump,
climb the A-frame, weave poles, tunnels (chute and pipe) and tip the
see-saw. The teams will become
familiar
with commonly used jumps and hurdles. As with any training,
behavioral training is integrated
with positive reinforcement.
Dogs are on lead, until they are reliable and the owner is comfortable.
DS is designed to be fun, not stressful,
judgmental or competitive. However, we encourage you to
realistically challenge yourself and your dog!
More challenging
Sports
is comprised of target training, obstacle discrimination and
simple sequence set-up for successful maneuvers. Dogs will learn to
serpentine weave poles and use
the pause table with working at
their own level of progress! Off-lead sequences will be introduced!
PRIVATE TRAINING (not
the same as Behavioral Counseling/Coaching)
6,
weekly 1-hour sessions: Basics = $480
at our sanctuary $600
at your Home (Plus travel/admin. expenses)
Dog
Talk provides private, confidential, positive-reward based
training designed for those who are unable to
attend group classes or simply prefer individual attention. The same
user-friendly training approaches for Level 1 & 2 (as described above) are taught in 1-hour sessions
at our training sanctuary. Need-in-home training, please call for
more e information.
We can help you eliminate,
manage and/or modify behaviors that need change. We are mindful that
the process of resolving behavioral problems can be stressful for humans
and dogs. Often
it is as simple as understanding the natural instincts of the dog, how
behaviors evolve, then making small, meaningful changes. When behaviors escalate to an intolerable
level, we can offer you
guidance and a realistic behavior modification / management plan that fits
your and your dog's lifestyle, as long as you are committed to change! Evaluations
are confidential. Please refer to Behavioral Counseling.
TELEPHONE COACHING: MC / VISA /

MC / VISA / DISCOVER can be taken over the phone if you prefer to begin
immediately. Safe PayPal is available for online scheduling.

More challenging
Dog Sports
is comprised of target training, obstacle discrimination and
simple sequence set-ups for successful maneuvers. Dogs will learn to
serpentine the weave poles and use
the pause table with teams working at
their own level of progress! Off-lead sequences will be introduced!
ICMT

and/or Primary Veterinarian's approval.
We integrate it
successfully into group and private classes for desensitization, connection
and calming.

The
connection between human and dog is unique
... Petting
makes friends, but massage builds relationships! It also grounds energetic,
stressed and excitable dogs so learning can actually happen!
Canine massage is integrated
into all training classes for desensization, grounding and warm-ups.
Private Treatment
Sessions are scheduled by appointment.
Sessions are $1.00 per
minute, $30 for 30 minutes, $50 for 1-hour.
The first
session includes a confidential assessment and consultation with a signed
approval from your Primary Veterinarian (please bring on first session). Massages will last as long
as the dog responds positively. Tolerance levels vary (physically,
behaviorally and emotionally).
Our goal is
for this to be a positive, relaxing experience for your
dog. We are pleased to consult with your dog's primary Veterinarian
regarding specific issues relating to massage and your dog's most optimum
treatment plan. For more information or to schedule an assessment,
we invite you to call: 603-635-DOGS (3647).
Pet-Assisted Therapy
Training is integrated into Basic Training Classes as part of "real-world"
experiences, but not with the focus and intensity of
private and/or event/workshop training. This
is a specialty-training-registration
process for teams aspiring to visit rehabs, nursing homes, hospitals,
residential care and other therapeutic milieus with their pets.
